The turbo cowl has no moving parts. The rotating cowl does, and it needs greasing every six months to a year to keep working properly.

The turbo cowl is the house-shaped one. It is stationary — there is nothing in it that turns, nothing to wear, nothing to seize up.
That means no maintenance. The only attention it ever needs is a repaint, at the same point you would repaint anything else on the outside of your house.

The rotating cowl
The rotating cowl is the bird-shaped one. It turns with the wind, and it has to turn to do its job.
That moving part needs greasing every six months to a year. Kept greased, it works well. Left unserviced, it can become noisy — and a cowl that squeaks above your bedroom in a south-easter is a problem you will not ignore for long.
If you are happy to service it, it is a sound choice. If you would rather fit it and forget it, the turbo cowl is the better answer.
