​Chimney Cowls in Cape Town — Custom-Made, Supplied and Installed

A chimney cowl (also called a chimney cap) is a metal cover fitted to the top of a chimney or flue. It improves the draw, keeps rain and birds out, and helps stop wind pushing smoke back down into the room. We have been manufacturing chimney cowls to our customers' measurements and installing them across Cape Town for 17 years.

The chimney cowls we make

Turbo cowls — our most-fitted cowl, suited to most domestic chimneys and braai flues.

Rotating cowls — turn with the wind to improve draw where downdraught is the main problem.

Braai cowls — made for built-in braais, where smoke blowing back into the entertainment area is the usual complaint.

Fireplace cowls — for wood-burning fireplaces and indoor stoves.

What a chimney cowl does​.
A turbo cowl is an essential addition to your chimney, serving multiple purposes:

1. 1. Improves the draw. A properly matched cowl helps smoke and combustion gases move up and out instead of lingering in the flue.

2. Reduces downdraught. Wind blowing across a chimney can force smoke back into the house. A cowl redirects that airflow.

3. Keeps rain out. Rain entering an open flue causes damp, staining and rust, and damages the chimney over time.

4. Keeps birds out. Birds nest in warm, sheltered chimneys. A nest blocks airflow, pushes smoke back into the house and is a fire risk.

5. Cuts wind noise. An open flue whistles and howls in Cape Town's wind. A cowl reduces it.

Made to measure in 3CR12 stainless steel

Every cowl is made to fit your chimney — there is no standard size that suits every flue, which is why we ask for photos and measurements before quoting.

Our standard cowls are manufactured from 3CR12 stainless steel and painted black. Polished stainless steel is available at an additional R2,000.

We supply and install across Cape Town, or arrange delivery only where that suits you better.
